Innovative Medicines to Treat Oxygen-Radical Mediated Diseases

GenKyoTex Company Profile
GenKyoTex develops drugs against oxygen radical-mediated diseases, that regroup most age-related degenerative pathologies (stroke, arteriosclerosis, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s diseases,…), through a completely novel therapeutic pathway. The originality of GenKyoTex’s approach is based on its focus on the newly discovered NAPDH-Oxidase (NOX) enzymes.
Before, the discovery of NOX enzymes, researchers equalled radical oxygen species (ROS) to the mitochondrial respiratory chain. In the late 90’s and early 00’s, the work of Prof. David Lambeth, Prof. Karl-Heinz Krause and other colleagues has clearly demonstrated that, as opposed to mitochondria which generate ROS as a by-product of their metabolism, NOX enzymes are professional ROS generators and are up-regulated in key acute and chronic pathologies. The activity of NOX enzymes in pathological situations is a key source of tissue damage and degeneration.

GenKyoTex focuses on the specific inhibition of selected NOX enzymes to provide a major therapeutic gain to patients affected by these diseases. GenKyoTex has the lead in developing drugs for this new pathway by combining the knowledge of its founders that were amongst the first scientists to open this field, with a professional team of drug developers, cumulating over 30 years of successful experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Current discovery projects in advanced stages include a number of proprietary chemical series with differential selectivity profile across NOX isoforms with potential in the treatment of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

GenKyoTex will provide therapeutic solutions for diseases with unmet medical need, as well as synergistic benefits to current medications with a very high specificity, safety and efficacy profile.

GenKyoTex targets its technology initially to the therapeutic areas of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. It intends to provide to the patients, to its partners and to its investors the full value of its technology against age-related degenerative diseases, one of the major health challenges of the 21st century.

Overview
GenKyoTex focuses on the discovery and development of novel drugs targeting a novel family of enzymes so-called NADPH oxidases (NOX), consisting of at least 7
different members. These enzymes play an important role in the functioning of the human organism, but under various disease conditions, they get overactive and thereby lead to disease. Thus, as opposed to antioxidants, drugs targeting NOX enzymes would attack the problem at the source in a more specific manner.
GenKyoTex focus on the specific sources of free radicals in age-associated diseases and develop drugs that prevent overshooting free radical generation. Age-associated disease where free radicals play a key role where the GenKyoTex's approach provides innovative therapeutic concepts include myocardial infarction, hypertension, atherosclerosis, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, age- and diabetes-associated kidney failure, age-associated hearing loss.

GenKyoTex is the fruit of an international collaboration of well-recognised scientific experts in the field of free radical generating enzymes. GenKyoTex unites the efforts of international research groups in Europe, Asia and the US as well as of an innovative Geneva infrastructure.
