| Founded in March 2006 Therapies targeting endogenous retroviruses involved in Multiple Sclerosis and other severe neurological diseases. GeNeuro SA develops novel therapeutics for Nervous System pathologies involving endogenous retroviruses, initially focusing on diseases with unmet medical needs such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS). GeNeuro’s novel approach, developed initially by Dr. Hervé Perron, is based on the implication of human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) acting as a key trigger and a major aggravating mechanism in the development and progression of major neurological diseases, such as MS. Multiple Sclerosis associated Retro Viral element (MSRV), member of the HERV-W family, is normally latent in some human genomes but plays a fundamental role in the MS disease development when activated by known viral co-factors. GeNeuro has licensed the technology protected by a patent portfolio of more than 20 original patents as well as the first developed monoclonal antibodies to neutralize the impact of these viruses, thus blocking the MS-like diseases inflammatory cascade and the development of lesions. Unlike other therapeutics on the market or under development, that are aimed at slowing-down the neurological damage and disability caused by these diseases, GeNeuro’s therapeutic objective is to act upstream on the cause of the pathology. bioMérieux is cofounder and shareholder of the company. |
